Last month she took GUS for it's first spin at Herlev triathlon. Now she has put her thoughts and experiences from the day of the ride into her own words. Read on to get Louises first "Story from the road".
...Oh, and a little side note to say that she and GUS continued in GREAT style this weekend by coming in 2nd at "Karrebæksminde sprint" - a prepare tri run for the Olympic distance run.

“Butterflies in my belly! Sunday morning, it’s early. I have signed on for a Triathlon on a route that is a bit too long and demanding for it to be all just fun. I am more of a sprinter. Maximum effect all the way and deadline on arrival - much more up my alley. But, I carry a secret weapon today. My wood and carbon GUS racer. Very exited too see what it will give me on the bike part of the route. Because ‘give’ is exactly what it does!"

"First you swim, the professionals do so in their wetsuits. They say it gives them a minimum of 5 minutes, as in a 5 minute faster swim. I do own a wetsuit, a nice one, but I left it at home. I work in such a way that avoiding assistance altogether seems best for me. It is me who has to perform. Not technology, neopren, high energy bars and performance drinks. No expensive gadgets like power metres, disc wheels, aero helmet or high end running shoes. Just me, my training, my psyche and my goals."

"The swimming was the part that just needed doing. I am a terrible swimmer. It is only this year that i have cracked the code of crawl, so when under pressure I tend to nearly drown, swallow water, panic and clumsily shift to a fluent, dynamic breaststroke swimming technique. That, on the other hand, I can do effortlessly. But it’s way slower than crawl and more demanding on the body.
After 1500 meters of breaststroke swimming I was so ready for the part of the journey that I had really been looking forward to; T1 - shifting from swimming to cycling.
Before starting the triathlon you walk with your bike and your gear into the T1, which is the changing zone from swimming to cycling. You prepare your bike, shoes, helmet, start number, water, etc. When I entered with my wood and carbon GUS racer and placed it in the designated holder, I had an array of comments coming at me. I answered questions about strength, weight, performance and so on. People seemed to like the thought of an “organic” bicycle in an environment where carbon or aluminimum are the norm. The fact that the frame is vibration dampening and handle shakes and shock making it less “adamant” to ride, was an intriguing fact to the curious crowd. Now all i had to do was get out there and test it out for myself!"

"Fresh, although a bit worn, I was out of the pool and into T1 where the bike awaited me. I was pretty exited. Did it live up to my expectations. Did I? Well, it certainly did. No doubt. I have never had a better riding experience. Max drive over the bars, down onto the aerobar, and loads of energy to overtake those ones up there, then the next three, that one all the way up there by the turn… Get up and more speed. 40 k was almost not enough, I could have easily taken another round. Chants and comments floating towards the bike (not me), made me want to keep on going even more."

"Even on short sprint distances you can experience fatigue in shoulders and neck. Both due to the swimming and to the fact that you sit very still with the upper body on a bike. Your body cools down from the draft, and then the worst part, bumps and shocks on the road enters directly into your joints. But not on this bike. No way near how it feels on my aluminimum bike. It was such a good experience, and even more so with the good vibe around me and my wooden bike."

"After a personal record of 32 k/h on average I arrived at T2 - the shift from biking to running. Well, this is where I started noticing…the fact that I am a middle aged, hard working mother of two small children with night shifts and too little time for training. The 10 kms where a drag in my otherwise so beloved running shoes. Angles and shins were spent, probably due to a little too much of my energy going into the biking. But what can you do, other than follow your heart when it bubbles over with energy and euphoria?! Well, my choice was to just follow it, go with the flow and the feel-good smile that came out of it, just to die slowly over the last 10 kms of running on a sunny 1st of May in Herlev."
